Training for JD Edwards, and most ERPs, has been a topic of conversation for quite some time. What kinds of training are available? How do you find the right training for the right user communities? What’s the latest and greatest in the the science of adult learning and how do we incorporate it into our organization? These are all some of the questions we get regularly here at iLearnERP, a dedicated JDE training company. These are also some of the questions that led customers to start the JDE Training SIG (Special Interest Group) in 2015.
Today’s call was focused on new user adaption and how to best on-board a new user to the JD Edwards software system. So, what does Day 1 look like for a new user? Jim Demes from W.L. Gore suggests this program:
- Start with a half-day ILT (Instructor Led Training) class which covers the following:
- Basic Navigation
- Documentation or deliverables including a quick reference card, job aids and exercises to practice in their demo environment
- Go over support flow (where can they find on-going support, what is the help chain they need to follow?)
They then go into a more detailed class where the users learn more specific role based features and functionality as well as advanced ‘bells and whistles’ the software is capable of. End users often rely on UPK tutorials to dig deeper into their particular job role functions.
Sue Amicone from the Anchutz Corporation suggests using the ‘See It’ and ‘Try It’ modes of UPK for end users. She leverages in-app support for UPK. This means utilizing the ‘help’ feature within JD Edwards that recognized the screen or process the user is on when they click the help icon and it takes them directly to that corresponding UPK topic. She also offers live webinars to her user communities to help answer specific questions.
Core team or Business Analysts tend to seek additional training as well. We at iLearnERP created an eLearning solution to fill this need called the EOne Academy. This comprehensive learning solution teaches the core applications of Finance, Distribution, Manufacturing, HCM and more. Click here to learn more about this cost-effective solution.
We’re looking forward to JD Edwards INFOCUS August 8th through the 10th, 2016 in our backyard, Denver, CO. Check out Quest INFOCUS for additional details and make sure to stop by the iLearnERP booth to register to win a ‘Learning Vacation’ package which includes a free seat to the EOne Academy- our online JDE learning university.
